Tree Trimming

Tree trimming in The Woodlands, Texas is often confused with pruning.
While the services are similar, we’ve compiled a list of details that are specific to tree trimming to give you a better idea of what it is.

Purpose
Tree trimming is a service that will ensure the proper growth of your trees. Trimming is also a service that is performed on shrubs and hedges for the same reason. Tree trimming thins out the crown of the tree, allowing more light to penetrate to the plants below. For this reason, all of your landscaping – not just the trees – can benefit from tree trimming.
Tree trimming can be as simple as removing a few branches that are not growing in the proper direction, or it may involve removing dead or weakening branches so that the tree’s overall health is not affected. It will keep the tree’s crown from becoming overcrowded, and it will help protect your property from falling branches that have become weak over time.

Frequency
The tree’s growth cycle is an important part of when it should be trimmed. Trimming at the wrong time of the year could do more damage than good. Tree trimming can be done as frequently as every 12 months. It’s best to trim trees during their flowering season so that you can best tell which branches need to go. We won’t trim your trees in the fall, though, when it’s more likely that they can contract some bacterial or viral disease.
For smaller shrubs and trees, trimming should be done when the plant is small, especially if you are trying to achieve a specific shape for the plant. After this initial shaping is done, it will probably only be necessary to trim the tree as needed, like when a branch begins to grow in an unpleasing direction or it is rubbing against another branch.

Tools
You may not want to hire a professional tree trimmer because the services seem expensive. However, by the time you purchase all the equipment that is necessary, including safety gear, you may find yourself paying a whole lot more and still doing the labor yourself.
If you are trimming a tree when it is small, hand shears or lopping shears may be all that is needed, since the branches are still very thin and tender. A hedge trimmer is all that should be needed when trimming very small trees and large shrubs. However, if you are trimming a larger tree, you will most likely need some sort of saw. These range greatly in size, type and power depending on the size of the branches to be removed and the angles at which they need to be cut.

As you can see, there’s a lot to know about trimming trees. You can try to do it yourself, but we don’t recommend it. Professional tree service companies like The Woodlands Tree Services have all the proper equipment and the knowledge to perform tree trimming services that will ensure proper growth of your trees for years to come!
